Similarly, his healthcare clinic aims to tackle the fragmented and monopolized electronic health record (EHR) systems in the United States. Hoskinson identifies a critical need for interoperability and patient-controlled access to medical data. Blockchain, with its ability to broker access control and economic agency, offers a solution to unlock the vast, siloed value of health data for research, clinical trials, and personalized care, all while preserving privacy. His critique of modern journalism is equally sharp, attributing its decline to misaligned incentives focused on “eyeballs and clicks” rather than objective reality. He proposes “veracity bonds” – a system where publishers stake money on the truthfulness of their articles, losing it if proven wrong. Combined with AI, this could create “truth marketplaces” that hold media accountable and combat misinformation, especially in an age where AI-generated content makes distinguishing fact from fiction increasingly difficult. This vision seeks to address the growing “neurosis” and “dual personality” he observes in Gen Z and Gen Alpha, driven by the disconnect between online personas and real-world interactions.

Input Output Global, Hoskinson explains, operates as a “venture studio” guided by a “decade’s thesis” – a long-term strategy to identify and invest in “exponential technologies” that can build solutions for a billion customers. These technologies, like AI and blockchain, are anti-intuitive in their growth and impact. IOG’s mission is to improve economic, political, and social systems by creating new business structures, governance models, and platforms that empower individuals with ownership and equity. Projects like the privacy-focused Midnight network and the immersive gaming world of Quantum Hosky illustrate this philosophy, aiming to foster creativity, wisdom, and a sense of agency, rather than just complaining about problems.

Midnight Network: The Last Generation of Crypto

At the forefront of IOG’s innovations is the Midnight Network, which Hoskinson declares as the “last generation that really matters” for cryptocurrency. Following Bitcoin’s value transfer (first generation), smart contracts (second), and scalability/interoperability/governance (third), Midnight focuses on privacy and identity as the crucial fourth generation. He argues that real-world business inherently requires both public and private operations, and existing blockchain systems, lacking robust privacy features, force centralization. Midnight aims to bridge this gap, enabling selective disclosure of data while maintaining compliance with regulations like GDPR and HIPAA. This “cooperative economics” model allows the Midnight network to seamlessly integrate with any blockchain (Ethereum, Bitcoin, Cardano) or traditional finance institution (BlackRock, Goldman Sachs), making it the “non-choice choice” for organizations seeking to embrace Web3 securely and compliantly. The Glacier Drop, Midnight’s ambitious airdrop to millions across multiple ecosystems, is intended to bootstrap widespread adoption and establish it as the backbone for private transactions, ultimately paving the way for a truly integrated “FI” (Finance) that transcends the current TradFi/DeFi divide.
